Hugging is bad??
There are some schools that have decided that hugging is a bad thing for teens and have banned it from their hallways and classrooms. Excuse me? Since when is a hug a bad thing? There's been a study that hugging has become the new popular way of greeting another. Very European. This is worse than showing your underwear in public? I once told my own teenagers, there's a reason they're called UNDERwear because they're supposed to be worn UNDER your clothes. How about name calling and fighting? Is this better than hugging? Hugging is a universal greeting, used by adults all over the world. There's nothing wrong with a hug and a kiss on the cheek when you're greeting a friend, an acquaintance, or meeting someone for the first time. And it feels pretty good too. Some argue that using hugging as a greeting downplays the hug as something meaningless and something people do without any caring behind it. This may be true but a hug a day keeps the doldrums away, right? I'd rather be greeted with a hug than a scowling face and a monotone "hello". Hugs can be so different as well. You have your quick 3-second hug, which is usually reserved fo those you don't know well. Then there's the one-armed hug, used in cases of support and congratulations. Then there's the looooong drawn-out hug, always reserved for those special people; close friends and family. Personally, I love the all day hug the most, the one that fits me like a glove from morning until night. That's the one your son or daughter gives you along with a "I love you, Mommy (or Daddy)" that manages to stay with you all day long. So kids, don't listen to those adults who tell you that hugging is bad. Hugging is very GOOD. And it's much cooler and a whole heck more fun than texting. Labels: banned, Hugging, teens |
